Failure Points

Two joint types cover most of what the structure needs. A fillet weld joins two pieces of steel at an angle; most brackets and connections use this.
A groove weld joins steel edge to edge, used where a full-strength butt joint matters more than an angled connection. Which one applies depends on the actual joint, not a fixed house method.
